Edmund Ironside

Born 993; King of England 1016

Edmund fought the Danes in 1015 and in 1016 was elected King of England by the Witan and the people of London.

On 18th Oct 1016 he was defeated by Cnut and the Danes at Ashingdon and forced to accept the partitioning of England. He was to be allowed to keep Wessex for himself, while handing over the rest of England to Cnut. Before this could take effect he died and Cnut became king of England.
