King Edward the Confessor

King of England 1042-1066

Edward's reign was secure because of his direct descent from King Alfred and the extinction of Cnut's line. Furthermore, the threat from Norway rallied the Danes behind him, uniting his kingdom and giving him more of a free hand than his predecessors had enjoyed.
