Noise and Your Health Is Noise Making You Ill?
Is Noise Making You Ill?
Take a moment to answer the following questions:
- Do you experience rapid heartbeat, stomach cramps and/or diarrhea at the onset of noise?
- Do you sometimes tremble uncontrollably and break out into a cold sweat when exposed to unwanted noise?
- Do you feel an overwhelming sense of anger toward the person causing the noise?
Do you entertain violent fantasies about that person?
- Do you get angry and upset just thinking about noise even when everything is quiet for the moment?
- Are you ever exposed to noise levels above 85 decibels?
If you answered 'yes' to one or more of the above
questions, chances are noise is harming your health.
Combating Stress symptoms are fatigue, muscular aches and pains, headaches, indigestion, bowel cramps, irregular heartbeat and rapid heartbeat... Take action to dispose of your stress... Face the stress-causing situation head on... In situations where you cannot show your anger, get away from the stress-causing situation for a while. Take a break, walk around the corner... Do not resort to alcohol or drugs when you are under stress. These only compound the stress...

The Hyperacusis Network Message I sent to them on Nov 29, 2007: Our offIces were refurbished a few weeks ago and a "speech privacy" system installed, without consulting any employees. This emits pink noise from speakers in the ceiling. There is only one volume control for the building, most of which has high ceilings, but I am in the only room with a low ceiling. Consequently the sound intensity is 2 or 3 orders of magnitude higher than it should be. Far from having a soothing effect, this fierce hissing produces irritation, agitation and anxiety, and I am becoming progressively sensitized to it. I note that the CIA and foreign governments use hissing as a torture method in their interrogation centers. Where do I stand legally? Am I able to take out a restraining order against my employer preventing him inflicting this psychological warfare on me? How much worse does it have to get before it can be classed as a workplace injury?

The gradual escalation of applied physical and psychological exertion... is said to have caused many of those held by the CIA to develop enduring psychiatric and mental problems"
